Benjamin E. McCurdy, MD

About Dr. McCurdy

Double board-certified interventional pain management specialist and anesthesiologist Benjamin McCurdy, MD, brings considerable experience in musculoskeletal pain management to Athens Spine Center in Athens, Georgia, serving men and women throughout Clarke County.

Dr. McCurdy was born in Columbia, South Carolina, and grew up in Macon, Georgia. He began his professional education at Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama, where he earned his Bachelor of Science, graduating summa cum laude. He subsequently enrolled at the Medical College of Georgia in August and obtained his Doctor of Medicine. 

Before launching his career, Dr. McCurdy also completed an internship and residency in anesthesiology, and at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta. He excelled in these programs, earning the title of chief resident. Dr. McCurdy also completed a pain management fellowship before joining the Athens Spine Center in 2008.

Dr. McCurdy loves augmenting his professional skills and expanding his professional knowledge. He proudly holds membership in the American Medical Association, the Southern Medical Association, the American Pain Society, the American Society of Interventional Pain Physicians, the International Spine Intervention Society, the Georgia Society of Interventional Pain Physicians, the American Society of Anesthesiology, and the Georgia Society of Anesthesiology. 

Dr. McCurdy also holds faculty status as a clinical assistant professor at the MCG/UGA Medical Partnership Campus in Athens. He also serves in the Department of Anesthesiology at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta. 

Outside the office, Dr. McCurdy loves serving the Athens community. He regularly volunteers for the annual Children’s Medical Center’s Family Fitness for Fun Run and 5K and also participates in medical missions. 

In his free time, Dr. McCurdy enjoys spending time with his wife Lacy, a pediatric physician, and their three children. He also enjoys playing golf, exercising, and reading. Dr. McCurdy welcomes any man or woman seeking relief from musculoskeletal pain to Athens Spine Center today.
