Double board-certified interventional pain management specialist and anesthesiologist William Megdal, MD, brings more than 25 years of experience in safe, effective pain management to Athens Spine Center in Athens, Georgia, serving men and women throughout Clarke County.
Dr. Megdal was born and raised in Rochester, Pennsylvania. He began his professional pursuits at Georgia Southern University in Statesboro, where he earned his undergraduate degree. He subsequently enrolled at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta and obtained his Doctor of Medicine. Before entering private practice, Dr. Megdal completed an internship and residency in anesthesiology at West Virginia University Hospital in Morgantown, West Virginia.
Dr. Megdal began his medical career at Anesthesia Consultants of Athens in Athens, Georgia, where he served as an anesthesiologist for more than 20 years. In 2005, he relocated to Burlington, Vermont, to participate in a pain medicine fellowship at the Medical College of Vermont. He subsequently returned to Athens, Georgia, and opened his interventional pain practice, Athens Spine Center.
Dr. Megdal proudly holds membership in the American Society of Regional Anesthesia and Pain Medicine, the American Society of Anesthesiologists, the Georgia Society of Anesthesiologists, the International Anesthesia Research Society, and the International Spine Intervention Society.
Outside of developing custom care plans and easing his patients’ pain, Dr. Megdal holds faculty status as a clinical assistant professor at the MCG/UGA Medical Partnership Campus and in the department of anesthesiology at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta.
Outside of the office, Dr. Megdal enjoys spending time with his wife, Joni, and their three daughters. He’s an active member of the Athens Church and enjoys gardening, exercising, reigning horse riding, and reading.
