William H. Megdal, M.D.

William H. Megdal, M.D.Born in Rochester, PA, Dr. Megdal received his Bachelor of Science from Georgia Southern University and completed additional pre-med curriculum at the University of Pennsylvania and the University of Georgia. He received his Medical Degree from the Medical College of Georgia and completed an internship and residency in anesthesiology at West Virginia University Hospital.

Dr. Megdal joined the Anesthesia Consultants of Athens as an anesthesiologist and practiced at St. Mary’s Hospital for over 20 years. In 2005, he and his family moved to Burlington, Vermont where he participated in fellowship training in Pain Medicine at the Medical College of Vermont. After completing the fellowship, Dr. Megdal returned to Athens to open a private practice in interventional pain medicine – Athens Spine Center.

Dr. Megdal is board certified in Anesthesiology by the American Board of Anesthesiology and is Fellowship Trained and Board Certified in Pain Medicine by the American Board of Anesthesiology. He is a member of the American Society of Regional Anesthesia and Pain Medicine, the American Society of Anesthesiologists, the Georgia Society of Anesthesiologists, the International Anesthesia Research Society and the International Spine Intervention Society.

Dr. Megdal has faculty status as Clinical Assistant Professor at the MCG/UGA Medical Partnership Campus and in the Department of Anesthesiology at the Medical College of Georgia.

He and his wife, Joni, have three daughters. They are active members at the Athens Church. He enjoys gardening, exercise, reining horse riding, and reading.

 

Benjamin E. McCurdy, M.D.

Benjamin E. McCurdy, M.D.Dr. McCurdy was born in Columbia, S.C. but spent his childhood years in Macon, Ga. He graduated summa cum laude with a BS degree from Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama. He received his medical degree from Medical College of Georgia. He also completed his internship and residency in anesthesiology at Medical College of Georgia and served as Anesthesiology Chief Resident prior to entering the Pain Management Fellowship. His fellowship was completed in June 2008 and he joined Athens Spine Center in August.

Dr. McCurdy is Board Certified in Anesthesia by the American Board of Anesthesiology and is Fellowship Trained and Board Certified in Pain Medicine by the American Board of Anesthesiology. He is a member of the American Medical Association, Southern Medical Association, American Pain Society, American Society of Interventional Pain Physicians, International Spine Intervention Society, Georgia Society of Interventional Pain Physicians, American Society of Anesthesiology and Georgia Society of Anesthesiology.

Dr. McCurdy has faculty status as Clinical Assistant Professor at the MCG/UGA Medical Partnership Campus and in the Department of Anesthesiology at the Medical College of Georgia.

Dr. McCurdy served as a volunteer for the annual Children’s Medical Center’s Family Fitness for Fun Run and 5K. He also participates with medical missions.

Dr. McCurdy is married to Lacy McCurdy, M.D, a pediatric physician. They have three children. He enjoys playing golf, exercising, reading and spending time with his family.

Daniel S. Thomas, M.D.

IMG_0024A native of Macon, Georgia, Dr. Thomas graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in Microbiology from the University of Georgia. He received his Medical Degree from the Medical College of Georgia, where he also completed his Internship in Internal Medicine. His residency was completed at Duke University in Anesthesiology, where he also served as Chief Resident prior to his Fellowship in Pain Medicine.

After completing his fellowship in 2009, he continued to work at Duke University as an Attending Anesthesiologist and an Assistant Professor, specializing in ultrasound-guided regional anesthesia. In July 2012, he began working with Anesthesia Consultants of Athens. He joined Athens Spine Center in April 2015.

Dr. Thomas is Board Certified in Anesthesia by the American Board of Anesthesiology and is also Fellowship Trained and Board Certified in the sub-specialty of Pain Medicine by the American Board of Anesthesiology. He is a member of the American Society of Anesthesiologists, the Georgia Society of Interventional Pain Physicians, and the International Spine Intervention Society.

Dr. Thomas is married to Kristen Thomas, M.D., a dermatologist.  They have three children.
